What began as a guidebook for weekly dhikrs here in Michigan has grown into a fully-featured 126 page (8 ½ x 11) Manual which details, instructs and illustrates the core Prayers and the Practices of the Shadhdhuliyyah Way as given to us by our beloved Sidi. This third edition has been greatly expanded, updated, redesigned and almost completely rewritten (CURRENT OWNERS: find out about the Trade-in Program).

This is the first Manual of its kind to bring together each of the core practices Sidi has given us over years into one, updated and consistent volume. It's the first manual to give clear instruction on to how to do each of the practices. Inside, you'll also find details and historical information about the importance of each practice. From al-Wird to Wudu, Wadifah to The Names and Attributes of Allah, each page is packed full of valuable information. This is also the first edition to include some of the teachings Sidi has given us over the years on these topics.

no mentioning of the Manual is complete without looking at the Salah - the five-times daily prayer. Never before in our Tariqah has the practice of Salah been explained, taught, and illustrated in such detail. To get some idea, the sections on Salah are near 40 pages of the manual - including a new, illustrated approach to learning Salah.

Each section of the Manual begins with an introduction that offers sayings and guidance from our Holy Prophet, may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him, teachings from Sidi and details as to the importance of each practice. Each of the practices is then thoroughly explained, and where necessary, illustrated and the recitation is shown.

Each section also includes English translation, English-Arabic transliteration (English characters to approximate Arabic sounds) as well as the Arabic script (except Sidi's Spiritual Remedies), making this the first source to put all three together in one volume. The transliteration style follows the work of Shaykh Nooruddeen Durkee as found in the Tajwidi Qu'ran, giving us an accurate and consistent method of transliterating the Arabic into English characters.

There is so much more that can be said about the Manaul. For brevity, you can read the section descriptions below. And each section has at least one sample page you can view.

Enjoy. And if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Here's what included in the Prayer Manual
Cover/Introduction
The manual is printed on a full 8½ x 11 inch 24-lb white paper, double-sided. It is then comb-bound with a clear acetate cover and vinyl back. The comb-binding, I've found, to give the greatest longevity under heavy use.

Story of Sidi Shaykh Abu-l-Hasan ash-Shadhdhuli
Now double in size from the previous edition, the Story of Sidi Abu-l-Hasan, may Allah protect his secret, is a study of how one utilizes the knowledge gained on the Sufi Path for deepening one's understanding of Allah's Reality. He is our Shaykh and the Shaykh for our Guide and therefore is a teacher to all of us who walk on the Shadhdhuli Path. Here, I've chosen to share a few of the highlights from his life and pray that these stories will aid anyone on their own journey.

The Calls to Prayer (Adhan & Iqamah)
The Adhan, or call to prayer is given to announce the time of Salah. The manual provides far more than simply listing how to recite it (and the iqamah). What you'll find it more about its depth, its history and a few of the many hadiths that our Prophet, may Allah's blessings be upon him and peace, are recorded to have said, including, "If people only knew what was in the adhan...they would certainly draw lots for it."

The Prayer (as-Salah)
The Salah is the essential practice of the worshipper of Allah, Most High. It creates the foundation for every other piece of our lives. If it is clean and strong, the foundation creates a strong base for the rest of our lives. If it is weak and unclean, then our life becomes clouded with the suffering of this dunya. About this, our Prophet, may Allah bless him and send him peace, is reported to have said to some of his companions, "If somone took a bath five times a day in the river flowing by his house, would there remain any dirt on his body? ... Such is the example of one who offers Salah five times a day. Allah removes the dirt of his faults from him."
For the first time within our Tariqah, this manual provides a lengthy amount of teaching about how to prepare, approach and perform the Salah. There is much instruction from understanding prayer times to Sunnah Salah to correcting mistakes, travel prayers and praying in congregation - and much, much more.
The highlight, for those first learning, can be found in having 2, 3 and 4 repetitions of the Salah listed out in their entirety from beginning to end, making learning much less difficult than following those confusing charts. There are also aids for knowing when to move between postures and when to recite aloud or silently. Of course, like with the rest of manual, you'll find English translation, the consistent transliteration system by Sidi Nooruddeen Durkee and the Arabic script for every piece of the Salah. And really, much, much more.

Practices after Salah (Tasbih)
A few summers ago, Sidi gave us a tasbih, or practice of glorification of Allah, that is to be done after each Salah. This practice has been published in many other places and has gone through some various editions. Here, I've published the version Sidi has seen to have given the most, in English, transliteration and Arabic. This supplication, Sidi has said, is for the protection of his beloveds.

Al-Wadhifah (often spelled Wazifa)
The Wadhifah is included here as it is a deep exercise of spiritual importance. About this practice Sidi has written, "The virtue of the prayer...has no limits and the nobility of the blessings is great." Here you'll find the Wadhifah with an introduction of both Sidi's and Shaykh Abu-l-Hasan ash-Shadhdhuli's teaching, may Allah be pleased with them both. Then the Wadhifah is given in its entirety with English translation, Arabic script and accurate transliteration.

Orison of the Sea (Hizbu-l-Bahr)
The Hizbu-l-Bahr was given by our Guide, Sidi Abu-l-Hasan ash-Shadhdhuli, may Allah hallow his secret. About reading the Hizb he said, "if it were read in any place that place would be preserved from harm, jinn are dispelled, fear made secure, the sick cured and the anxious made peaceful." Here the Hizbu-l-Bahr is given in English translation, accurate transliteration, as well as the Arabic script.

Ramadan, Fasting & Zakat
The month of Ramadan is one of the holiest times of the year. We fast, give zakat, bring our nafs more into account and increase our acts of worshipping Allah. In this completely new section of the manual, I've included introductions, instructions and teachings from Sidi and our Prophet, may Allah bless him and send him peace, including the tarawih du'a' that Sidi has given us to do during Ramadan.

Spiritual Remedies from Sidi's Book
This section houses some of the remedies that Sidi, may Allah be pleased with him, gave us in Spiritual Medicine and Natural Healing. Not all the remedies are included here, however. The focus is on those that you would use in your daily life and with your family, such as what to say upon awakening, protection for children, financial difficulty, visiting the sick or protections from harm, to name a few. I've added these so that perhaps they are more available to you for your daily life. Unfortunately, I'm not able to include an accurate Arabic script at this time. This is the only section without Arabic.

...and more
Of course, that's not it. I've also included a section, with Arabic, accurate transliteration and English translation that has all of the ayat from Qur'an listed that is used throughout the manual. There is a resources section at the end, an opening du'a' that asks Allah to make us successful in our striving toward him, an introduction and thanks and credits to all those who have helped in this effort.
